Whether you are discovering us for the first time or returning as a valued customer, we understand that selecting the perfect bouquet is a personal and thoughtful experience. To ensure your journey with us is seamless and informed, we have curated a collection of thoughtfully considered questions, some of which you may have pondered yourself.

Below, you will find insights and answers designed to enrich your understanding of our Rose Bouquets, our process, and the care we put into every exquisite arrangement.

What is included in my rose bouquet?

Each David Austin bouquet is presented in our signature midnight blue wrap with grosgrain ribbon.  Your flowers will be accompanied by three sachets of David Austin flower food; a little booklet with everything you need to know and also a gift card printed with your gift message.

My roses are in bud and do not look like the picture.

At first glance, the bouquet may look quite different to what is pictured as the roses will be in closed bud. All the roses are cut at the farm in bud, at their optimum cut point, and they will naturally start to open gradually over time including during their journey from the farm. Each variety performs slightly differently as they all have unique characteristics. One variety can be very slow to open and will remain in bud for a longer period of time, and another can be quicker to open.

The colour of the outer petals may also be quite different to the bloom inside. The true colour, character and beauty of the rose becomes apparent as the bloom opens over the days to come.

Follow our Rose Care steps and enjoy the bloom transformation.

How long will my roses last after they have fully opened?

The vase life of our roses varies by variety but typically our roses will bloom for around five to seven days from bud. Some varieties will continue to bloom longer.

To extend their beauty, we recommend re-snipping the stems and changing the water and flower food on day three.  Visit our Rose Care advice for further information.

About the colour and form of David Austin Roses.

As our roses bloom, they undergo a beautiful transformation in both colour and form.

The multitude of petals, as well as their positioning and translucency, create subtle shifts in tone, light, and shade, making it difficult to pinpoint precise colours. Indeed, the allure of our roses lies in their ever-changing colours, with each bloom being uniquely different.

The change from closed bud to open bloom is quite mesmerising and is nature at its very best. From a small, unassuming bud, develops a blossoming beauty, full of character and personality.

Do all David Austin Roses have a fragrance?

Our collection offers a range of fragrances from more intense perfumes to lightly fragrant. If a rose is noted for her fragrance, we make specific reference to it within the bouquet description. For example, Millicent is not shy in sharing her fragrance of iconic Old Rose with notes of zesty lemon and hints of apricot.

All our cut rose varieties are assessed by our fragrance expert, but we do acknowledge that fragrance is subjective, and every nose detects different scents.  As a natural product, the intensity of fragrance can also differ from one stem to another and can also be affected by external factors such as temperature.

Fragrance is an important aspect of our rose breeding philosophy, though it can be somewhat elusive. Rose breeding is an art rather than an exact science, and sometimes the distinctive beauty and charm of a rose - such as Juliet and Tess - more than make up for a delicate or absent fragrance.

Where do your flowers come from?

Our roses are bred in England at the home of the English Roses and David Austin headquarters in Shropshire. They are grown by our esteemed rose growers, Alexandra Farms in Colombia and Rosaprima in Ecuador who are as passionate about our roses as we are. The Growers and their employees are indeed part of the extended David Austin family.

Like ourselves, both our Growers strive to the highest of standards. They are committed to eco-friendly practices and sustainable, responsible cultivation, ensuring the highest quality of roses while preserving the environment.  Take a look behind the scenes and discover our Family of Rose Growers.
